SAN FRANCISCO: 30 June, 2026 July 2 is the anniversary of the repose and ecclesiastical glorification of St John (Maximovich) the Wonderworker. According to a decision by the 1994 Council of Bishops upon the uncovering of the relics of this great shepherd of the Russian diaspora, his memory is celebrated on the nearest Saturday to this date. This year the celebrations at the Cathedral of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” in San Francisco, marking the nationwide commemoration of this saint, will take place on July 3-4, 2026. Divine services will be led by His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. On Friday, July 3, all-night vigil with a litany, blessing of the bread, and singing of the magnifications to the saint will take place at 6 pm. On Saturday, July 4, at 9 am, the clergy of the Western American Diocese and Orthodox Christians will welcome Metropolitan Nicholas. After Divine Liturgy and a moleben with a procession, a communal meal will be offered at the Cathedral. |
