The Synod of Bishops of the Russian Church Abroad convenes
On Thursday, September 19, 2024, a regular session of the Synod of Bishops was held via remote communications under the chairmanship of His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia. Participating in the meeting were His Eminence Metropolitan Mark of Berlin and Germany; His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America; His Eminence Archbishop Gabriel of Montreal and Canada; His Eminence His Eminence Archbishop Peter of Chicago and Mid-America; His Grace Bishop Irenei of London and Western Europe; His Grace Bishop Theodosius of Seattle and His Grace Bishop Job of Stuttgart.
During the meeting, reports were heard from Bishop Irenei, Secretary of the Synod of Bishops for Inter-Orthodox Relations; Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem (Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia), and jurisconsult Nicholas Ohotin.
After discussing the oral petition of Archbishop Peter, the Synod of Bishops gave its blessing for the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God to be brought to the Diocese of Mid-America during Great Lent of the coming year.
The Synod of Bishops also considered various ecclesiastical disciplinary, property, and administrative issues, as well as a number of petitions from the archpastors, who nominated their clergy and parishioners for ecclesiastical awards.
At the end of the session, the members of the Synod of Bishops congratulated Metropolitan Nicholas on the second anniversary of his enthronement as First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, wishing him many years of life and service in good health.
