On Tuesday, July 9, 2024, the feast of the Tikhvin Icon of the Mother of God, His Eminence Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America and New York celebrated Divine Liturgy at St Nicholas Church in Christchurch, New Zealand, and the day before, great vespers, after which he spoke with the clergy and parishioners, answering their many questions.
The services were held under the holy aegis of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign." His Eminence was co-served by the parish Rector, Archpriest Valentin Basyuk, and Archpriest Serafim Gan. The deacon's choir was led by Protodeacon Eugene Kallaur.
Upon completion of Divine Liturgy, the rector of the church greeted His Eminence, wishing him God's help in his laborious service. His Eminence then addressed the assembled worshippers with a primatial sermon.
During the tea reception that followed, the archpastor, clergy and parishioners continued to commune, after which the rector of the church visited the ailing parishioners with the miraculous image.
Later the same day, Metropolitan Nicholas, Fr Serafim and Fr Eugene departed for Australia.
