The Great Lenten Pastoral Conference of the Western American Diocese was held, dedicated to St John of Shanghai and San Francisco the Miracle-worker
On Sunday, 21 April, 2024, the fifth Sunday of Great Lent, the Cathedral of the Mother of God "Joy of All Who Sorrow" hosted the Western American Pastoral Conference. The event was dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the glorification of St John of Shanghai and San Francisco the Miracle-worker.
Participating clergymen first prayed at early Divine Liturgy. During the minor entrance, His Eminence Archbishop Kyrill of San Francisco and Western America awarded the double horarion to Deacon Symeon Noon of St Seraphim Church in Monterey, CA.
The first half of the day featured short presentations: "The Early Years of St John," by Elena Perekrestov; "The Teachings of St John on Prayer," by Priest George Kaplanov; "St John and the Forgotten Relics of the West," by Reader Basis Thompson; and "The Teachings of St John on the Divine Liturgy" by Archpriest Peter Perekrestov.
After the main Divine Liturgy, Reader Vladimir Krassovsky presented a talk "The Vladyka I Knew," after which Archpriest Stefan Pavlenko read a lecture "Everday Saints in My Life."
The event closed with they showing of video clips of St John.
