NEW YORK: August 4, 2021
The First Hierarch of the Russian Church Abroad celebrates the feast day of St Seraphim of Sarov in Sea Cliff

On Sunday, August 1, 2021, the feast day of St Seraphim of Sarov, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, celebrated Divine Liturgy at the Memorial Church to the Reestablishment of Unity in the Russian Orthodox Church dedicated to that saint in Sea Cliff, NY. A large gathering of worshipers was present, adult and young alike. The hierarchal service was particularly grand and prayerful. The day before, the minor blessing of the waters was performed with an akathist to St Seraphim, followed by all-night vigil. The parish Rector, Archpriest Serafim Gan, invited those present to his home for a repast prepared by his wife and mother.

Divine Liturgy was celebrated on Sunday by His Eminence, His Grace Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan, and local and visiting clergymen in the presence of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign.” The choir sang joyously under the direction of Nicolas Miro. Peter Wolkow was ordained as a reader and subdeacon before the service.

The visiting Archpriest Alexander Krassovsky, Rector of SS Peter and Paul Church in Santa Rosa, CA, read a sermon.

After Liturgy a moleben was performed to St Serafim, after which Metropolitan Hilarion read a sermon and congratulated the parishioners on their patron’s day, and Protodeacon Paul Wolkow and Elizabeth Mikheev on important anniversaries in their lives. His Eminence recounted his visit to Diveevo Convent in Russia in 1990, visiting with “Mother Frosya,” who gave him relics belonging to the saint, some of which are now kept at the church in Sea Cliff.

A full report on the event is posted in Russian along with many photographs.
