A copy of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign" is brought from Kursk-Root Hermitage to Znamensky Cathedral

On September 25, 2020, the Apodosis of the Nativity of the Most-Holy Mother of God, an honored painted copy of the Kursk-Root Icon of the Mother of God "of the Sign" was taken from the Kursk-Root Hermitage of the Nativity of the Mother of God to Znamensky Cathedral in Kursk.

The original icon, which in the early 20th century became the main holy relic of the Russian diaspora, first appeared in Kursk in 1295. A monastery was established at the site.

Over the last decade, the Hierarcy of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia has sent the miracle-working icon from the Synodal Cathedral of Our Lady “of the Sign” in New York to Kursk every September. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, this tradition was suspended, as was the traditional procession of the cross with the icon from Kursk-Root Hermitage to the city of Kursk.

Divine Liturgy was celebrated at the Cathedral of the Nativity of the Most-Holy Mother of God, led by His Grace Bishop Paisy of Zheleznogorsk and Lgov and diocesan clergy, with the blessing of His Eminence Metropolitan German of Kursk and Rylsk. At the end of Liturgy, a moleben was performed before a painted copy of the Kursk Icon.
