Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky) Participates in the Consecration of the Renovated Holy Sepulcher of the Lord

On Wednesday, March 22, 2017, Archimandrite Roman (Krassovsky), Chief of the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, participated in the solemn consecration of the renovated Holy Epicule (kuvuklia) of the Lord in the Church of the Holy Sepulcher of the Lord in Jerusalem.

The consecration was performed by His Holiness Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople and His Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem and All Palestine. Also participating in the service were representatives of Local Orthodox Churches, religious leaders of various confessions, Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of Greece, other government officials and social leaders.

The renovation of the Edicule took nine months. The existing structure covering the Tomb of the Lord, where Jesus Christ was buried and resurrected, was erected in 1810 inside the Church of the Holy Sepulcher. It is in the care of the Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, as well as Armenian and Roman Catholic clerics, who all agreed on its first renovation in history. Specialists from the National Technical Institute in Athens performed the work.
