JERUSALEM: May 19, 2014
A Cross is Blessed on the "Russian Candle" at Holy Ascension Convent on the Mt of Olives

The bell tower of the Russian Holy Ascension Convent on the Mt of Olives, Jerusalem, standing at its highest point, is visible from almost any point in the city. It greets every visitor to the Holy Land. Known as the "Russian Candle," it has a pyramid-shaped top and looks somewhat like a great candle. During the last 7 months, the tower, enclosed by scaffolding, underwent a major renovation. Its conclusion should come on the feast day of the Ascension of the Lord, while the consecration of its renovated crowning cross took place on May 6, the feast day of St George the Victory-Bearer, Great-Martyr and Miracle-Worker.
