The Synodal Cathedral Marks the 140th Anniversary of the Birth of Sergei Rachmaninoff

On Sunday, November 24, 2013, a composite choir under the direction of the Synodal choir director Peter Fekula performed the great Russian composer Sergei Rachmaninoff's Divine Liturgy of St John Chrysostom. The Synodal Choir thereby marked the 140th anniversary of the composer's birth.

Protopriest Andrei Sommer, Senior Priest of the cathedral, officiated at the Liturgy with the rest of its clergymen. Numerous parishioners and worshipers prayed with special fervor and even tears in their eyes as they listened to the splendid, professional singing. At the end of the service, the cathedral sisterhood offered a buffet, where icons, books, calendars and souvenirs were offered. Proceeds from the event will go towards the cathedral's continuing restoration.
