Celebrations of the 90th Anniversary of the Russian Church Abroad Begin With an Exhibition By Artists of the South American Diocese

On January 14, 2010, an exhibition of the work of Russian artists N Shaplyko and E Sorokina, titled “Russian Cupolas,” opened at the Centro Cultural Borges in Buenos Aires, as reported by the website of the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Argentina.

The organizers of the exhibition were representatives of Rossotrudnichestvo in Argentina, the Diocese of Argentina and South America, the Diocese of Buenos Aires and South America of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and the Russian Embassy in Argentina.

The event marks the 90th anniversary of the founding of the Russian Church Abroad this year.

In his opening address, KS Kurgansky, representing Russia House in Argentina, noted the importance of Russian spiritual traditions which over the centuries served as the main point of orientation for compatriots abroad.

His Grace Bishop John of Caracas and South America stressed that the exhibition, which coincides with the anniversary of the establishment of the Russian Church Abroad, will be a significant event in the spiritual unification and bonding of Russians. “It is a joy to see that more and more of our compatriots are beginning to recognize their spiritual roots, to value their religious and cultural traditions,” said Vladyka John.

His Eminence Metropolitan Platon of Argentina and South America stated that thanks to the work of the House of Russia, there has been a noticeable growth in the Russian cultural presence in Argentina.

The exhibition will be open until January 31.
