Archbishop
Alypy is Hospitalized Following an Accident
On Saturday, 18 April His Eminence Archbishop Alypy of Chicago
and Midwestern America fell from a height and suffered a serious
injury. Vladyka Alypy was preparing for the celebration of
Easter and decided to prune the branches of a tall tree near
the Protection Cathedral in Chicago. Vladyka fell on his head
and sustained a spinal injury. Vladyka was immediately brought
to the hospital to the intensive care unit. On 19 April, Archbishop
Alypy partook of the Holy Gifts, was anointed from the oil
from the ever-burning lamp at the relics of St. John and underwent
a surgical procedure. At his feet lay the icon of St. Jonah
Manchuria the Miracle-Worker.
Archbishop Alypy received the Holy Gifts on Lazarus Saturday,
Palm Sunday, on Great Wednesday, Great Thursday, Great Saturday
and right after Paschal liturgy.
On the second week of Easter, the First Hierarch of the Russian
Orthodox Church Outside of Russian, Metropolitan Laurus, performed
the Diving Liturgy. He came to Chicago to visit his brother
in Christ, Archbishop Alypy, and also to console the flock
of the Chicago Diocese.
At the present time, Vladyka Alypy cannot move his legs. A
fund has been established at the diocese to help pay the medical
bills relating to the operation and rehabilitation.
Donations may be sent to the Diocesan Treasurer at the following
