Entertainment
Establishments to be Removed from the Premises
of Orthodox Churches in Shanghai
Entertainment establishments are to be removed from St. Nicholas
Orthodox Church and from the Cathedral in honor of the Icon of the
Mother of God "Surety of Sinners," which have been preserved
in Shanghai, reports "Interfax." This was stated by the
Ambassador of China to the Russian Federation Liu Gu Tsian at a
meeting with the Head of the Department of External Communications
of the Moscow Patriarchate Metropolitan Kirill of Smolensk and Kaliningrad.
In the future, these buildings will serve a cultural purpose connected
with the history of the Russian presence in China.
In this manner, the Chinese side has responded to the request previously
voiced by Metropolitan Kirill. The Ambassador also assured Metropolitan
Kirill that China is ready to help organize visits by Russian citizens
to Russian military cemeteries in the PRC, including priests of
the Russian Orthodox Church to serve memorial services for the fallen
soldiers.
Li Gu Tsian expressed his readiness to continue to develop fruitful
cooperation with the Russian Church into the future.
