A Report is Presented in Atlanta on the Work of the Inter-Council Presence of the Russian Orthodox Church

On Saturday, November 4, 2017, the Church of the Mother of God “Joy of All Who Sorrow” in Cumming, GA, hosted an event titled "100 Years of the Russian Local Council of 1917-1918." Deacon Andrei Psarev, a member of the Inter-Council Presence of the Russian Orthodox Church and Assistant Professor of Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, NY, read a lecture on the work of that body.

Fr Andrei presented the Inter-Council Presence as an organ of the sobornost’ [collegiality] of the Church, affording the broadest opportunity to discuss documents of Church-wide significance.

His Eminence Metropolitan Jonah, former Archbishop of Washington, Metropolitan of All America and Canada of the Orthodox Church in America, then joined the discussion along with Priest Eugene Antonov, Parish Rector, and representatives of clergymen and laity of great Atlanta.

This lecture was also read as part of the monthly lecture series offered by Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, which led to a lively discussion on sobornost’ in the life of the Russian Church in Russia and abroad.

Slides and infographics illustrated the history and work of the Inter-Council Presence.
