EASTERN AMERICAN DIOCESE: April 21, 2017
Photo-Report on the Holy Fire's Arrival at St John the Baptist Cathedral in the Nation's Capital

On Holy Thursday, arriving in time for evening vigil at St John the Baptist Cathedral in Washington, DC, was the Holy Fire, brought to the US from the Life-Bearing Sepulcher of the Lord in Jerusalem on Great Saturday.

According to the Rector of the Cathedral, Mitred Protopriest Victor Potapov:

“After only a couple of days’ notice, the faithful gathered on April 20, 2017, to greet the Holy Fire which descended on the Tomb of Christ last Holy Saturday. The Holy Fire is an annual miracle and the fact that the Holy Flame was brought to the US is in itself a miracle. Many thanks to the Synod of Bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia and the St Andrew the First-Called Foundation for arranging this. Now we at St John's have to take care to keep the Holy Fire going until next Pascha.”
