The Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia Celebrates the Feast Say of St Sergius of Radonezh at Holy Trinity-St Sergius Lavra

On October 8, 2015, the feast day of St Sergius of Radonezh, His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia officiated at Divine Liturgy at Uspensky Cathedral at Holy Trinity-St Sergius Lavra in Sergiev Posad, Russia. St Sergius, Abbot of Radonezh, the All-Russian Miracle-worker, died on this day in 1392.

His Holiness was joined by His Beatitude Metropolitan Onouphry of Kiev and All Ukraine; His Eminence Metropolitan Irinei of Dnepropetrovsk and Pavlogradsk; His Eminence Metropolitan Kliment of Kaluga and Borovsk; His Eminence Metropolitan Sergy of Voronezh and Liskinsk; His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York, First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia; His Eminence Metropolitan Viktor of Tver and Kashinsk; His Eminence Metropolitan Sergy of Samara and Syzransk; His Eminence Metropolitan Arseny of Istrinsk, First Vicar of Moscow of the Patriarch of Moscow; His Eminence Metropolitan Nikon of Ufa and Sterlitamaksk; His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion Sergy of Ternopol and Kremenets; His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion Ioann of Belgorod and Starooskolsk, President of the Synodal Missionary Department; His Eminence Metropolitan Nikon of Lipetsk and Zadonsk; His Eminence Metropolitan Pavel of Vishgorodsk and Chernobyl, Prior of Kiev Lavra of the Caves; His Eminence Metropolitan Kirill of Ekaterinburg and Verkhotursk; His Eminence Metropolitan Mitrofan of Lugansk and Alchevsk; His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion Feofan of Kazan and Tatarstan; His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion Feodosy of Tambov and Rasskazovsk; His Eminence Metropolitan Georgy of Nizhegorsk and Arzamassk; His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion Zinovy of Saransk and Mordva; His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion Sergy of Barnaul and Altai; His Eminence Metropolitan Isidor of Smolensk and Roslavl’, and a multitude of other hierarchs and clergymen.

Attending the service was Andrey Belousov, Assistant to the President of Russia; Sergey Donskoy, Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology of the Russian Federation, and Sergey Pakhomov, Head of the Sergiev-Posad Region.

The services were sung by the Holy Trinity-St Sergius Choir under the direction of Archimandrite Gleb (Kozhevnikov).

After the augmented litany, His Holiness lifted prayers for peace in Ukraine.

The service was broadcast in real time on Soyuz TV station.

After Liturgy, His Holiness performed a moleben on the monastery square before a venerated icon of St Sergius. He was joined by the hierarchs who had concelebrated Liturgy in other churches of the monastery that day.

A meeting of the regular members of the Holy Synod then took place, chaired by His Holiness. On the agenda was the matter of convening a Council of Bishops in 2016.
