The House of Russia Abroad Hosts an Exhibition on the History of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia

On February 4, 2014, the Solzhenitsyn House of Russia Abroad in Moscow, Russia, hosted a presentation of the book Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky): Archpastor of the Russian Diaspora, and the exhibition �Towards a History of the Founding of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia.�

Participating in the event were the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia, His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion of Eastern America and New York; His Eminence Archbishop Michael of Geneva and Western Europe; His Eminence Archbishop Mark of Yegorievsk, Head of the Moscow Patriarchate�s Administration for Institutions Abroad; Protopriest Nikolai Balashov, Vice President of the Department of External Church Relations; Protopriest Vladimir Vorobiov, Rector of St Tikhon Orthodox Humanitarian University; Protopriest Vladislav Tsypin, Professor at Moscow Theological Academy, and Protopriest Vladimir Tsurikov, Director of the Russian History Foundation (USA).

Also attending the opening of the exhibition were Mr Sergei Mironenko, Director of the State Archives of the Russian Federation , Mr Viktor Moskvin, Director of the Solzhenitsyn Russia Abroad Foundation, as well as clergymen and scholars.

Fr Vladimir presented the book devoted to Metropolitan Anthony (Khrapovitsky) based on an international conference in honor of the first Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia held in 2006 in Holy Trinity Seminary in Jordanville, NY. In addition to speeches, the compendium included articles on the history of the Russian Church Abroad as well as photographs from the HTS archives.

That day, an exhibition titled �Towards a History of the Founding of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia� opened. It includes rare documents and photographic materials from the Solzhenitsyn House of Russia Abroad and the archives of Holy Trinity Monastery in Jordanville, NY. Among the expositions are photos and correspondence of Metropolitan Anthony, his telegrams to Grand Duke Nikolai Nikolaevich, epistles of the Synod of Bishops of ROCOR, as well as photographs of daily life in Holy Trinity Monastery.

The first such exhibition was held in Belgrade, Serbia, at the Russian House on May 17, 2012, concurrent with the fifth anniversary of the reestablishment of canonical unity within the Russian Orthodox Church.
